1. Remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs.
2. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
3. Rub the spice mix all over the ribs.
4. Place the ribs in the slow cooker, standing them upright if necessary.
5. Pour BBQ sauce over the ribs.
6. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until ribs are tender.
7. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
8. Carefully remove ribs from the slow cooker and place them on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.
9. Brush additional BBQ sauce on the ribs and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce is caramelized.
