Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ham bone with some meat on it
  • 2 cups Split peas rinsed
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 3 carrots Carrots sliced
  • 2 stalks Celery sliced
  • 8 cups Chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Thyme dried
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper ground
  • to taste Salt

Instructions 

  1. 1. In a large pot, combine the ham bone, split peas, onion, garlic, carrots, celery, chicken broth, thyme, and black pepper.
  2. 2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 2 hours, or until peas are tender.
  3. 3. Remove the ham bone and let it cool. Remove any meat from the bone, chop it, and return it to the soup.
  4. 4. Season with salt to taste and serve hot.
