Baked Alaska Recipe

Ingredients 

Cake Base

  • 1 unit Sponge Cake store-bought or homemade

Ice Cream

  • 1 quart Vanilla Ice Cream

Meringue

  • 4 large Egg Whites at room temperature
  • ¼ teaspoon Cream of Tartar
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Instructions 

  1. 1. Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C).
  2. 2. Place the sponge cake on a baking sheet.
  3. 3. Scoop the ice cream into a dome shape on top of the cake. Freeze for at least 4 hours.
  4. 4. In a mixing bowl, whisk the egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
  5. 5. Gradually add sugar and continue whisking until stiff peaks form. Add vanilla extract.
  6. 6. Spread the meringue over the ice cream and cake, making sure it is completely covered.
  7. 7. Bake in the preheated oven for 3-5 minutes, or until the meringue is golden brown.
  8. 8. Serve immediately.
