Ingredients

  • 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes
  • 1 cup grated Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour, salt, and pepper until smooth. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until thickened.
  3. Layer half of the potatoes in a greased baking dish. Pour half of the sauce over the potatoes. Repeat layers.
  4. Sprinkle cheese on top. Bake, covered, for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender and top is golden brown.
